Blocks, days and start times

How the timeline keeps time: every block has a start time and a duration, and what moves — or stays put — when you change either.

An agenda is a list of blocks, one day at a time. Each block has a start time and a duration, and the builder keeps the two separate on purpose: changing a start time moves everything after it, while changing a duration moves nothing until you say so.

Steps

  1. Click the start time on any block, type a new one (930 becomes 09:30) and press Enter. Every unlocked block after it shifts by the same amount, so the day keeps its length. The shift stops at the first locked block; that block and everything after it stay where they are.
  2. Click the clock icon next to the time to pick hours and minutes instead of typing. The tooltip reads Open time picker.
  3. Click the duration under the start time (30m, 1h 30m), type a number of minutes and press Enter. Hover the row and and + appear either side of it. Only this block changes; the blocks after it keep their start times.
  4. Look between the blocks. When a block now ends before the next one starts, a blue card reads 30m buffer with two choices: Fill buffer opens the add menu for a block of exactly that length, and Close gap pulls the next block earlier — and the rest of the day with it, stopping at a lock.
  5. When a block runs into the next one, an amber card reads 15m overlap and offers Push next blocks later. Click it and the following blocks move later by the overlap, again stopping at a lock. If the block being overlapped is itself locked, the card turns red and reads Adjust block durations to resolve instead — nothing moves until you shorten something.
  6. Click Add day in the tab row above the timeline. The new day is dated the day after the last one and its first block starts at 09:00. Click the tab twice to name it (the field suggests e.g. Strategy day) and set its date, then Save. Hover a tab from Day 2 onwards and the × deletes that day with every block in it.
  7. With two or more days, Expand all days shows them in one scroll, and Show by day brings the tabs back.
  8. Drag a block by the dot in the left rail — it becomes a grip when you hover it. Dropping it rebuilds the day's times from the top: each block starts when the one before it ends, the day keeps the time it started at, and locked blocks keep theirs. In the all-days view you can drop a block into another day.

Tip: The gap cards are not errors. A deliberate 15-minute buffer before lunch is exactly what Fill buffer is for, and a day can carry several of them. Close a gap only when the empty time was not your intention.

Typing a start time never locks a block. A lock is a separate switch, and it is the one thing that stops the shift in steps 1, 4 and 5 — see Lock a block to a fixed time.

What to do next

If the agenda does not exist yet, start with Create your first agenda. When a day has a fixed point in it — a CEO slot, a booked lunch — lock that block before you start moving the rest.
